Sightseeing & Tours

Bernina Express

Beautiful Switzerland

Crossing the Alps in the Bernina Express certainly is one of the most spectacular ways to do it. Along the way, the Bernina Express rolls Hollywood-style over the 65-meter-high Landwasser Viaduct, the signature structure of the Rhaetian Railway and the UNESCO World Heritage site. Altogether the train passes through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges on its way from Chur to Tirano. Travellers are treated to marvellous sights during their journey.

Altitude 3303 m (10’837ft)

The big cable car is impressive in itself, gliding from Surlej up to the mid-mountain station in just seven minutes. More impressive still is the spectacular mountain panorama that greets you at the end of the next leg of the ride, when you step out of the cabin at the highest summit station in the Eastern Alps at an altitude of 3,303m (10,837ft)

Altitude 3303 m (10’837ft)

The “Black Peak” and its sporty neighbours! Hikers and bikers love the mountains and the energy of alpine nature. There is more than enough of this in the Piz Nair, Corviglia and Marguns region: a view which extends over the Upper Engadine Lake District almost to Maloja on nice days, scenery comprised of green bowls, mountain streams and lakes, and a kaleidoscope of possibilities to wander through the alpine world with hiking shoes or per bike.

Muottas Muragl

Altitude 2,456 m (8057 ft)

Something for the heart … and for the feet. Not only artists have been inspired since time immemorial by the view from the classic mountain. People like us are also captivated over and over again by the setting. Alone the ascent with the red funicular is a show. For over 100 years it has climbed up the steep slope and is the second oldest mountain railway in the Graubünden region. Some come to enjoy and have a feast, while others want to hike into the panorama, either down to Pontresina or up to the Segantini Hut and Schafberg.

Halfway along the route, just below the trail, you will come across the cosy little Unterer Schafberg restaurant, which is the perfect place for a break. Kite Surfing

Spectacular fun

The fun begins when, with a board under your feet, you are actually holding a kite into the wind (and yourself upright on the water). The quickest and most effective way of learning the correct technique is by booking a few lessons at the Swiss Kitesurf School in Silvaplana. The school was the first of its kind in the world – after all, this trend sport was invented here at Lake Silvaplana – just 10 minues drive from the hotel.

Fly like a bird

Even more mountain-air, reviving your nose, brain and most important your soul. So enjoy a flight with a hangglider or paraglider piloted by an experienced pilot. No experience or knowledge of flying required, just be able to stand straight up on the start. Flights take place from 10 am. to 4 pm. Meeting every full hour, underneath Corviglia top station every day, weather- and flying conditions permitting.

Downhill Scooters

Fly like a bird

Anyone wishing to explore the Engadin nature at a faster pace will certainly get a thrill out of these huge scooters with mountain bike wheels: they are smooth-running, easy to steer and fast. Not to mention a pretty adventurous and unpaved road of negotiating the trail from the Marguns top station at 2,273m down the mountainside to Celerina. The natural path, part of it quite steep, leads through flower-filled Alpine meadows. When you reach the forest, it is worth putting your foot on the brake and taking a deep breath – the fragrance in the air is so divine that you wish you could put it in a bottle and take it home with you.

River Rafting

Fly like a bird

Family rafting trips a great fun for everyone and the highlight of any child’s holiday here in the Engadin. The Inn river is not only the home of some great white-water but also has a couple of quieter sections that can be enjoyed by family groups with children as young as 8 (minimum height 1.20 cm). The family trips are generally run on the middle scenic section of the Scuol gorge and feature a few small rapids. On these trips its all about having some good fun on and in the river, we have a jumping rock where everyone is invited to get wet and depending on the section we run there are also some spots where you can go for a swim.

The legendary Maloja wind allows wonderful sailing and windsurfing regattas even in the middle of summer, when other places are experiencing a lull.  At 1,800 metres above sea level, the other Engadin lakes are blessed with fantastic wind conditions, with speeds of between 3 and 6 Beaufort. The season highlights are the Swiss, European and sometimes even the World Championships, which are held on the lakes in Silvaplana and St. Moritz.

Stand Up Paddle – Silvaplana Lake

SUP stands for Stand Up Paddle or stand up paddling. It is similar to surfing, only that one is standing on the surfboard and not paddle with your hands, but a single bladed paddle. Stand Up Paddle Surfing is originally back to Polynesian fishermen standing in front of Tahiti were moving in their canoes on the sea. While you glide peacefully over the water, you train all the muscles and exercise in balance. Paddling requires the muscles of the back, shoulders and arms, thus SUPing is ideal to get a pretty silhouette and this even with a lot of joy and fun.
